Movers in Key Biscayne, FL — Local, Intrastate and Out-of-State Moves From One Direct Carrier

Key Biscayne is 1.25 square miles reached by a single causeway, where the village code stops your loading at 6:30 PM, the tolls are charged by the axle, and the loading bay in your building is shorter than the truck. We plan all of it before we quote — and the same crew that loads your home here unloads it in New York, Nashville or Naples.

Quick Answer: What a Key Biscayne Move Costs, and the Four Rules That Govern It

Quick answer · Key Biscayne, FL

A local move on Key Biscayne typically runs $1,050–$2,050 for a one-bedroom and $1,550–$3,300 for a three-bedroom. Out-of-state moves are priced by weight and mileage, from roughly $1,800 for a small shipment to $10,800+ for a four-bedroom home going cross-country.

Four things govern every move on this island, and no other moving page mentions any of them:

  1. 01

Your move is legally over at 6:30 PM.

Village Code Sec. 17-2(9) restricts loading and unloading to 7:00 AM–6:30 PM Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM–6:30 PM Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Running past it is a citable offence — $150, then $500.

  2. 02

There is one road on and one road off.

The Rickenbacker Causeway, opened 1947, is the island’s only land link. Tolls are charged per axle, and a 3-axle truck pays $6.50 with SunPass or $13.00 by plate — each way.

  3. 03

No moving truck can ever use a resident’s toll discount.

All three annual plans are restricted to two-axle, non-commercial vehicles.

  4. 04

The loading bay is smaller than the truck.

Village code requires off-street loading spaces of only 10 ft × 25 ft with 14 ft vertical clearance — and just one space per 50 units in a multifamily building.

Where We Pick Up Key Biscayne Moves From

The whole village is 1.25 square miles, with a county park at the north end and a state park at the south, and one road running through all three. 57.4% of the island’s homes are in buildings of fifty units or more. This is a tower market with a single access corridor.

On an Island With One Road, the Wrong Mover Costs You the Whole Day

Every other moving page you’ll read about Key Biscayne was written by someone who has never crossed the causeway.

We read the one that ranks for “long distance movers Key Biscayne.” Its headline says Key Biscayne. Its body copy discusses California, Rhode Island, North Dakota and Washington State. It lists a downtown Miami address, and it publishes no USDOT number at all — only a California state licence. Not one sentence about the causeway, the tolls, the bridges or a single building on the island.

Here’s what that costs you in practice.

A crew that doesn’t know the village code books a 9 AM start on a Saturday and plans to finish “whenever.” At 6:30 PM the loading legally has to stop, whether the truck is full or not — and the Village Police Department enforces it.

A crew that doesn’t know the toll structure gets billed by the axle, by plate, both directions, and passes it to you as a line item you never saw coming.

And a crew that doesn’t know your building’s loading bay is 25 feet long turns up in a 26-foot truck.

Hands down the best movers ever! 💎 "Honestly, these guys are absolute legends. They showed up right on the dot with a prepared clean truck, which was already a great sign. Moving is usually a nightmare, but the crew had a killer sense of humor that kept the vibes high all day. They’re total pros—super careful with my fragile stuff and paid attention to every little detail. Big thanks to the foreman, Reeno, for keeping all process! His leadership and responsibility made the whole process feel like a breeze. Communication was 10/10 with constant updates. If you’re looking for a moving company that’s a literal diamond in the rough, this is it. Will definitely be recommending them to all my buddies. Thanks again, guys!

How a Moving Hub Key Biscayne Move Works

1

Survey and Written Quote

We do a visual or virtual survey — federal regulation requires one before a binding estimate. We check your building’s dock and elevator, count the axles for the toll, and size the crew to the 6:30 PM loading window. You get a written, binding number.

2

We Clear the Paperwork Before Move Day

COI issued to your association. Service elevator reserved. Dock confirmed, or a shuttle arranged if it can’t take a full-size truck. Tolls priced. Disposal timed inside the 48-hour rule.

3

Move Day, Inside the Window

The crew arrives early because the code says loading stops at 6:30. Floors, doorways and elevators get protected. Your home is wrapped, loaded and — for interstate — sealed on the same truck that delivers it. You sign the number you were quoted.

What Do Movers in Key Biscayne, FL Cost?

A local move on Key Biscayne typically runs $1,050–$2,050 for a studio or one-bedroom, $1,550–$3,300 for a two- to three-bedroom, and $2,450–$3,900 for four bedrooms or more. Final pricing depends on inventory, building access and the loading window. Run your own numbers with our moving cost calculator.

What Moves the Number on Key Biscayne — Specifically

The 6:30 PM cutoff sets the crew size. Loading legally stops at 6:30 PM every day of the week. We don’t slow down and charge you more hours — we send enough people to finish inside the window. On this island, crew size is a compliance decision.

Tolls are a real line item. Per axle, each way, and no discount plan a truck can join. We quote them; we don’t spring them.

Elevator windows and dock size. Most island towers issue four-hour weekday service elevator windows, and village code only requires one loading bay per fifty units. Where that bay can’t take a full-size truck, we bring a shuttle and price it upfront.

Timing. May through September is peak across South Florida and prices run higher market-wide. Mid-month weekdays are consistently cheapest — and the easiest elevator to reserve.

Snowbird season. South Florida’s second demand spike runs October through April and peaks January to March. On an island where a quarter of the homes are seasonal, that pressure is sharper here than anywhere else in the county.

Intrastate Moves From Key Biscayne — Anywhere Inside Florida

An intrastate move is any move that stays inside Florida: Key Biscayne to Naples, to Orlando, to Tampa, to Key West. It is regulated by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under Chapter 507, Florida Statutes, and it requires the mover to hold a Florida Mover Registration — an IM number.

Distance does not make a move interstate — a state line does. Key Biscayne to Key West is roughly 155 road miles and is still intrastate. Key Biscayne to Jacksonville is over 350 miles and is still intrastate. Both fall under FDACS, not FMCSA, and both are priced differently from a move of the same distance crossing into Georgia.

Out-of-State and Interstate Moves From Key Biscayne

An interstate move crosses a state line — Key Biscayne to New York, to Washington, to Boston. It is regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration under 49 CFR Part 375, and it requires active USDOT and MC operating authority. Brokers are separately regulated under 49 CFR Part 371 and are not permitted to transport your goods themselves. See our interstate movers from Florida and long distance movers Florida pages.

The One-Line Version

Inside Florida → FDACS + IM number + hourly or flat rate. Across a state line → FMCSA + USDOT/MC + weight and mileage. Moving Hub holds all three credentials, which is why one company can handle both ends of your move.

Second Homes, Seasonal Owners and Storage in Transit

At the 2020 census, 26.6% of Key Biscayne’s 7,215 housing units were vacant — against a homeowner vacancy rate of just 2.1%. That gap is the island’s seasonal-ownership signature: a large share of these homes are second residences, and a large share of the moves off this island are partial, staged, or timed around a closing that hasn’t happened yet.

That is a different job from a straight A-to-B relocation. Storage in transit, split deliveries and a defined delivery spread written into the estimate matter more here than an hourly rate does. We quote all three upfront.

Full Value Protection on High-Value Island Contents

Released Value Protection is the free federal minimum: sixty cents per pound, per article. A 40-pound television is covered at $24 regardless of what it cost. Full Value Protection is the paid upgrade — repair, replacement with like kind and quality, or cash settlement at current market value — priced at roughly 1% of declared value, with a carrier-standard minimum declared value of $6.00 per pound. Items worth more than $100 per pound must be listed in writing on a high-value inventory before loading, or they are not covered at their real value. We walk that list at survey.

Key Biscayne Moving Challenges We Solve Every Week

The 6:30 PM Rule — the Village Ordinance No Mover Mentions

Village of Key Biscayne Code Section 17-2(9) makes it a noise disturbance to create plainly audible sound in connection with the loading, unloading, opening, closing or other handling of boxes, crates and containers outside 7:00 AM–6:30 PM Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM–6:30 PM Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Read that again: 6:30 PM is the hard stop every single day, weekends included. Ten holidays are named in the code, each carrying the later 8:00 AM start. Under Section 17-7 enforcement runs from a verbal warning to a $150 citation, then $500, then treatment as a public nuisance with arrest by a Village police officer — with enhanced fines under Florida Statute § 162.09(2)(a). And under Section 17-2(6), idling a truck engine outside those hours is a violation in its own right: a driver waiting at the kerb at 7 PM is in breach even if nobody is carrying a box. On Key Biscayne, crew size is not an upsell — it is how a move finishes lawfully. We size the crew to the window and start early.

Construction Hours Are Even Tighter

If your move involves any assembly, disassembly of built-ins, or contractor work at either end, note that Section 17-2(7) permits construction only 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday to Friday — no Saturdays, no Sundays, no holidays at all. The code defines construction broadly, including site preparation, assembly, substantial repair and alteration on public or private property.

One Causeway, Charged by the Axle

The Rickenbacker Causeway (SR 913), opened in 1947, is the only road onto and off the island. There is no alternative route, no back way and no ferry. Tolls are charged per axle, and here is the part residents know and movers don’t: the discount plans are useless to a moving truck. The Resident plan at $72 a year, the Commuter plan at $120 and the School plan at $120 are all restricted to two-axle, non-commercial vehicles. A moving truck can never qualify — not on your account, not on ours. Every crossing is paid at the full commercial rate, both directions. We run SunPass and we quote the tolls into your estimate at the correct axle count.

Bridge Work Runs Through Spring 2028 — At Night

A $4.1 million rehabilitation of the West Bridge and the William Powell Bridge began in Spring 2026 and runs to Spring 2028, carried out by P & P Contracting and funded from Rickenbacker toll revenue. The good news for a move: closures are overnight weekdays only, roughly 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM, with both bridges reduced to one lane in each direction. A move that finishes inside the village’s 6:30 PM loading window is finished long before the lane closures begin. Longer term, the Bear Cut Bridge — built in 1944, with a sufficiency rating of 37.3 out of 100 — is the subject of a Miami-Dade County Project Development & Environment study running to March 2027, with eventual work estimated at $60 million to $100 million and nothing yet designed, funded or scheduled.

Every Type of move covered

The Loading Bay Is Shorter Than the Truck

Village code Section 30-184 requires an off-street loading space of only ten feet wide by twenty-five feet long, with fourteen feet of vertical clearance — and for multiple-family buildings, just one loading space per fifty units. Buildings under ten units need none at all. A 26-foot box truck already exceeds a 25-foot bay, and fourteen feet of clearance rules out many high-cube trailers. This is why we ask for your building name at quote stage. Where the dock can’t take a full-size vehicle, the answer is a shuttle — a smaller truck running between your door and a full-size van staged legally — and we price it as a line item weeks before move day. A shuttle you were warned about is logistics. A shuttle sprung on you at the kerb is a sales tactic. Every association on the island sets its own move-in rules, elevator reservation policy and Certificate of Insurance wording, and none of them publish those rules publicly. Send us your building name and we obtain the sample COI, match its exact wording, and file it before the deadline.

Twenty Miles Per Hour, Everywhere Off Crandon

Under Section 26-42, the speed limit on every street in the residence districts of the Village is 20 mph, with the exception of Crandon Boulevard and Harbor Drive; Harbor Drive runs at 30. It is a small thing that adds real minutes to a multi-trip day on the interior streets, and it is one of the reasons we build the schedule around the loading window rather than hoping. Worth noting what the code does not say: Key Biscayne’s Chapter 26 contains no truck route, no commercial-vehicle restriction and no municipal weight ordinance. The binding constraint on this island is the clock, not the vehicle.

Island-Wide Trenching Is Coming to Your Street

On 10 February 2026 the Village Council approved island-wide undergrounding of all power lines — estimated at $60 to $81 million against the $100 million resiliency bond voters approved in November 2020. The scope is not just cables: it includes burying feeders, laterals, telecom lines, transformers on potentially elevated pads, switches and pedestals, plus paving restoration, swale repairs and landscaping refurbishment, with branch connections run to every customer’s meter. For a move, that translates to intermittent disruption to kerb access, swale parking and driveway approaches on residential streets over the coming years — a live reason to have someone look at your actual street before quoting.

Zone A — the First Island Evacuated

The Village states plainly that Key Biscayne sits in Evacuation Zone A, the red zone on Miami-Dade’s Hurricane Storm Surge Evacuation Map, and the zone with the highest risk of storm-surge flooding. Zone A is the first ordered to evacuate in any surge event, and there is one road out. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and overlaps peak moving season almost exactly. Most movers will not refund a weather cancellation. We monitor named-storm tracks against every scheduled Key Biscayne pickup and reschedule affected moves at no charge.

Furniture at the Kerb: 48 Hours, No Earlier

If your move-out leaves bulky items behind, Section 5-3(d) prohibits placing bulky waste in the public right-of-way more than 48 hours before scheduled collection — 24 hours for regular solid waste — and requires containers to be removed from the right-of-way on collection day and screened from view. We coordinate disposal timing rather than leaving you a code violation on the kerb.

Village of Key Biscayne Code Section 17-2(9) restricts loading and unloading to 7:00 AM–6:30 PM Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM–6:30 PM Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Loading outside those hours is a noise disturbance carrying a $150 fine, then $500, enforced by the Village Police Department.

Tolls are charged per axle. As of 1 October 2025, a two-axle vehicle pays $3.25 with SunPass or $6.50 by plate; three axles cost $6.50 or $13.00; five axles cost $13.00 or $26.00. Toll-by-Plate adds a $2.50 monthly invoice fee. Charges apply in each direction.

No. All three annual Rickenbacker plans — Resident at $72 a year, Commuter at $120 and School at $120 — are restricted to two-axle, non-commercial vehicles. No moving truck qualifies on any account, so every crossing is paid at the full commercial per-axle rate.

No. The Rickenbacker Causeway, State Road 913, opened in 1947 and is the only land route onto and off the island. There is no alternative road and no ferry, which is why move scheduling on Key Biscayne has to account for causeway conditions and bridge work.

Yes. A $4.1 million rehabilitation of the West Bridge and the William Powell Bridge runs from Spring 2026 to Spring 2028, funded from toll revenue. Closures are overnight weekdays only, roughly 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM, with one lane each direction. Daytime moves are unaffected.

Village code requires off-street loading spaces of only 10 feet by 25 feet with 14 feet of vertical clearance, and just one space per 50 units in a multifamily building. A 26-foot truck exceeds a 25-foot bay, so a smaller shuttle often runs between the building and a full-size van staged legally nearby.

Moving Hub is a direct carrier. We own our trucks and employ our crews full time. The company that quotes your Key Biscayne move is the company that loads it and delivers it. We never sell, broker or subcontract a move. Our FMCSA entity type reads Carrier, not Broker.

For a Florida move, search the mover’s IM number in the FDACS Business License Lookup at csapp.fdacs.gov. For an out-of-state move, search their USDOT number in the FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov. Confirm a USDOT number exists at all — at least one company ranking for Key Biscayne long-distance moves publishes none.

Yes, at no cost. Every island association sets its own COI wording, elevator policy and move-in rules, and none publish them publicly. Send your building name with your quote request and we obtain the association’s sample document, match it exactly, and file it before the deadline — usually 48 to 72 hours ahead.

An intrastate move stays inside Florida — Key Biscayne to Naples, Orlando or Key West — and is regulated by FDACS under Chapter 507, requiring a Florida IM registration. An interstate move crosses a state line and is regulated by FMCSA under 49 CFR Part 375, requiring active USDOT and MC authority. Moving Hub holds all three credentials.

Book three to four weeks ahead for a local move and four to six weeks for an out-of-state move. Book earlier if your building issues four-hour weekday elevator windows, if the dock needs a shuttle, or during peak season from May to September. Month-end slots fill weeks in advance.

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Key Biscayne is in Evacuation Zone A, the first zone ordered to evacuate in any storm surge event, reached by a single causeway. Demand is softer and pricing often better, but book with a mover who reschedules named-storm-affected moves at no charge.

We serve the entire Village of Key Biscayne including Key Colony, Towers of Key Biscayne, Ocean Club, Ritz-Carlton Residences, Grand Bay Residences, Oceana, Harbor Drive, Mashta Island and the interior village streets, plus all of Miami-Dade, Broward, West Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast.
