Movers in Homestead, FL — Local, Intrastate and Out-of-State Moves From One Direct Carrier
Homestead is where the Turnpike runs out and US-1 keeps going. It’s the staging point for every move into the Keys, the last mainland stop before Card Sound, and the fastest-growing city in south Miami-Dade. We run it daily — and the same Moving Hub crew that loads your home here unloads it in Houston, Charlotte or Key West.

Quick Answer: What a Homestead Move Costs and What Makes This Corner of Florida Different
A local move in Homestead typically runs $880–$1,750 for a one-bedroom and $1,350–$2,900 for a three-bedroom. Out-of-state moves are priced by weight and mileage, from roughly $1,600 for a small shipment to $9,800+ for a four-bedroom home going cross-country.
Four things about moving in and out of Homestead that no other page tells you:
- The Turnpike ends here. The Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (SR 821) terminates at US-1 in Florida City at Exit 1, mile 0.000 — and there is exactly one service plaza on its entire 48 miles, at Snapper Creek, mile 19. It is also all-electronic. Cash is not accepted.
- A big truck should not go through downtown. SR 998 / Campbell Drive was designated in 2019 as a purpose-built truck bypass around downtown Homestead, connecting Krome Avenue to US-1.
- Homestead is not on FPL. The city runs its own utility, HPS Energy — and connection can be same-day if you submit before noon.
- Homestead is a CRS Class 7 community, which earns a 15% flood insurance discount on every policy in its Special Flood Hazard Areas.
Moving Hub is a direct carrier — Fla. Mover Reg. IM150010, USDOT #3699092, MC #1293570. The crew that loads your home on Campbell Drive is the crew that unloads it in Houston.

Intrastate Moves From Homestead — Anywhere Inside Florida
An intrastate move is any move that stays inside Florida: Homestead to Naples, to Orlando, to Tampa — and Homestead to Key West. It is regulated by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under Chapter 507, Florida Statutes, and it requires the mover to hold a Florida Mover Registration — an IM number.
What Governs a Florida Intrastate Move
| Regulator | Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) |
|---|---|
| Statute | Chapter 507, Florida Statutes |
| Required licence | Florida Mover Registration (IM number). Moving Hub’s is IM150010 |
| Minimum liability | Florida law bars a mover from limiting liability below $0.60 per pound per article |
| Your written contract must show | An itemised breakdown and description of all costs and services, signed by both parties, before work begins |
| Verify any mover | FDACS Business License Lookup (csapp.fdacs.gov) or 1-800-HELP-FLA |
Moving to the Florida Keys From Homestead
Homestead and Florida City are the staging point for every Keys move, and the Keys are the hardest intrastate destination in the state — not because of distance, but because of access.
There are two roads out of the mainland, and both of them fail. In March 2025 a brush fire in south Miami-Dade closed the 18-Mile Stretch of US-1 three separate times, and on at least one of those days US-1 and Card Sound Road were closed simultaneously, cutting the Keys off from the mainland entirely.
The alternate route costs money, and it costs more for a truck. Card Sound Road tolls by axle. As of 1 October 2025: a two-axle vehicle pays $2.13 with SunPass or $3.18 by plate; a three-axle pays $4.05 or $6.08; every additional axle adds $1.35 or $2.03. Cash is not accepted on the roadway, and the toll-discount programmes explicitly exclude a vehicle towing a trailer.
Monroe County also evacuates the Keys in phases during hurricane season, visitors first. Check monroecounty-fl.gov before locking a Keys move date between June and November.
Moving Hub is FDACS-registered, so a Homestead-to-Islamorada move is the same company, the same crew and the same binding number as a Homestead-to-Orlando move.
Out-of-State and Interstate Moves From Homestead
An interstate move crosses a state line — Homestead to Houston, to Atlanta, to Charlotte. It is regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration under 49 CFR Part 375, and it requires active USDOT and MC operating authority. Brokers are separately regulated under 49 CFR Part 371 and are not permitted to transport your goods themselves.
What Changes When You Cross the Line
| Regulator | Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) |
|---|---|
| Regulation | 49 CFR Part 375 (household goods) · Part 371 (brokers) |
| Required authority | Active USDOT and MC numbers. Moving Hub’s are USDOT #3699092 and MC #1293570 |
| How it’s priced | Shipment weight or cubic feet plus mileage — not by the hour |
| Your rights include | A written estimate, the federal Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move booklet, a Bill of Lading, and a defined delivery spread |
| Free valuation | Released Value Protection at $0.60 per pound per article |
| Verify any mover | SAFER Company Snapshot (safer.fmcsa.dot.gov) |
The One-Line Version
Inside Florida → FDACS + IM number + hourly or flat rate. Across a state line → FMCSA + USDOT/MC + weight and mileage. Moving Hub holds all three credentials, which is why one company can handle both ends of your move.
What Released Value Protection Actually Covers
Every interstate shipment includes Released Value Protection free: sixty cents per pound, per article. A 40-pound television is covered at $24 regardless of what it cost. Full Value Protection is the paid upgrade — it obliges us to repair, replace or cash-settle at current market value, and it runs about 1% of declared value at a $6.00-per-pound minimum. We quote it on every interstate move so you can see the difference and decide with the numbers in front of you.

What Moves the Number in Homestead — Specifically
- New construction cuts both ways. Homestead’s newer subdivisions have the widest streets and best driveway access in Miami-Dade — genuinely faster load-outs than Brickell or the Gables. But an active construction site next door can block the frontage, so we check before quoting.
- Redland addresses need a different plan. Five-acre lots, 50-foot front setbacks and county vehicle rules mean a full-size van often can’t get to the door. That’s a shuttle, and we price it upfront.
- Distance from the metro. Homestead sits at the southern end of the county. A move north to Broward carries real drive time, and on an hourly job that time is yours. We start early and route around US-1.
- Timing. May through September is peak across South Florida and prices run higher market-wide. Mid-month weekdays are consistently cheapest.
- Race weekend. Avoid 6–8 November 2026 — NASCAR Championship Weekend is at Homestead-Miami Speedway and traffic across the south end of the county is not what you want on move day.
Where We Pick Up Homestead and Florida City Moves From
Fifteen square miles of new-build subdivisions, a working agricultural district next door, an Air Reserve Base, and the last stretch of mainland before the Keys. Four completely different move profiles inside twenty minutes of each other.
- The new-construction corridor — Homestead has 80 new-home communities and 18 active builders, Lennar and Onx among them, with names like Heron Pointe, Altamira, Wildwood Groves, Coral Breeze and Acacia Groves. Wide streets, real driveways, and the easiest load-outs in Miami-Dade.
- Keys Gate — one of the largest established communities in the city, built between 1988 and 2019, with HOA fees running $255–$455 a month.
- The Community Development Districts — Keys Cove, Keys Cove II, Keys Edge and Homestead 50 each operate as their own special-purpose district with published board rules. We check district and HOA requirements before quoting, not on move day.
- Homestead Air Reserve Base — home of the 482d Fighter Wing, about 25 miles south of Miami.
- The Redland — the agricultural district northwest of the city. It is unincorporated Miami-Dade, not Homestead, and that changes the rules entirely.
- Florida City — immediately south and contiguous, incorporated since 1914, and the southernmost city in the United States that isn’t on an island. Where the Turnpike ends and the road to the Keys begins.

Homestead Moving Challenges We Solve Every Week
The Truck Doesn’t Go Through Downtown — It Takes Campbell Drive
When Krome Avenue was widened from two lanes to four, the original corridor through downtown Homestead couldn’t be widened with it. So FDOT and Miami-Dade County did a road swap, and in 2019 SR 998 — Campbell Drive — was designated as the replacement state highway, a three-quarter-mile connector from the south end of Krome Avenue to US-1 that serves as a truck bypass around downtown Homestead.
That is the route. A 26-foot straight truck or a tractor-trailer coming down Krome takes Campbell Drive to US-1 rather than threading the downtown grid. It is a small thing, and it is exactly the kind of small thing that separates a crew that works here from a crew dispatched from Opa-locka.
For the record, Krome Avenue is SR 997. It carried the SR 27 designation until a renumbering in 1983 — you will still see the old number on out-of-date maps and on more than one competitor’s page.
The Turnpike Ends Here, and It Doesn’t Take Cash
The Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike is SR 821, and its southern terminus is Exit 1, mile 0.000, at US-1 in Florida City. Forty-eight miles north to the mainline in Miramar, with exactly one service plaza on the whole stretch — Snapper Creek, at mile 19. There is nothing south of it.
It is also all-electronic. Cash is not accepted. A truck without a transponder gets billed by plate at the higher rate.
Homestead Isn’t on FPL — And That Catches Almost Everyone
The City of Homestead runs its own municipal utility. Your electricity comes from HPS Energy, part of Homestead Public Services — not Florida Power & Light. If you’re moving in from anywhere else in Miami-Dade, the account you’re used to transferring doesn’t exist here.
The useful part: HPS can connect service the same day if your request, documentation and payment are submitted before noon. Start, stop and transfer through the city portal or on 305-224-4800.
We flag this on every Homestead move-in, because a family arriving to a house with no power at 4 PM on a Friday is a bad first night, and it is completely avoidable.
The Redland Is County, Not City — and the Rules Are Different
The Redland is the agricultural district northwest of Homestead, and it is unincorporated Miami-Dade, not inside the city. That single fact changes the permits, the police jurisdiction, the utility, and — most importantly for us — the vehicle rules.
Redland parcels sit outside the Urban Development Boundary in the AU Agricultural District, which requires a minimum five acres for a new house, a 50-foot front setback, and caps lot coverage at 15%. A five-acre parcel is roughly 466 feet on a side. The house is a long way from the road.
Then the county code: under Miami-Dade Section 33-124.1, vehicles over 20 feet long or over 8 feet tall are prohibited from parking in residential and agricultural zones. They may stand in front of the building line only while actively loading or unloading — and a convenience stop is capped at one hour in any 24-hour period. Penalties run $500 for a first violation, $1,000 for a second within five years, and $2,500 thereafter, with each vehicle and each day a separate offence.
Put those together and a Redland move usually needs a shuttle: a smaller vehicle running between the house and a full-size van staged legally. We quote that upfront as a line item. A shuttle you were warned about is logistics. A shuttle sprung on you at the curb is a sales tactic.
Every Keys Move Stages From Here
Homestead and Florida City are the last mainland staging point before the Keys, both roads south are single points of failure, and March 2025 proved it three times in one month. If you’re moving to Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon or Key West, the plan starts here.
Flood, Storm and the 15% Nobody Mentions
Homestead contains both FEMA Special Flood Hazard Areas and Zone X areas — it varies by parcel, so check yours rather than trusting a general claim.
What is citywide: Homestead is a CRS Class 7 community, which earns a 15% discount on flood insurance for every policy in its Special Flood Hazard Areas. New construction and substantial improvements must be built one foot above Base Flood Elevation. That is a genuinely good thing about buying here and almost nobody says it.
Miami-Dade runs five storm surge planning zones, A through E, and evacuates by zone independent of the hurricane’s category. Look your address up on the county’s Know Your Zone tool before hurricane season rather than on the day.
This City Has Been Through the Worst of It
On 24 August 1992, Hurricane Andrew came ashore here as a Category 5. Homestead Air Reserve Base was left, in the Air Force’s own words, “in complete ruin” — the control tower destroyed, the installation placed on the BRAC closure list. It came off that list in May 1993, and the 482nd Fighter Wing returned in March 1994. Hurricane season here is not an abstraction, and we plan Homestead move dates with named-storm tracks in view.
We Serve Florida City Too — the Last City Before the Keys
Florida City is its own municipality, incorporated on 29 December 1914, sitting immediately south and west of Homestead across about six square miles. It is the southernmost city in the United States that is not on an island, and it is where the Turnpike ends and the road to the Keys begins.
It is also frequently confused with Homestead — including by at least one national moving company’s Homestead landing page, which tells readers Homestead is “the last stop on the way south to Key West.” It isn’t. Florida City is.
If your address is in Florida City, everything on this page applies: same crew, same binding estimate, same direct-carrier chain of custody, same FDACS and FMCSA credentials. The only thing that changes is which city hall handles your permits.

How We Move — Filmed On Real Jobs, Not Written By A Marketing Team
Every moving company says “careful,” “professional,” “trusted.” You can’t check any of that from a website. So we filmed it instead. What you’re about to watch is our own crew, in our own uniform, on a real customer’s move — start to finish.

The Company That Quotes Your Homestead Move Is Usually 33 Miles Away
Search “movers in Homestead” and almost everything on page one is a national van line’s template page with the city name dropped in.
One of them tells you outright. Allied’s Homestead page lists its two nearest agents: 33 miles away in Opa-locka, and 45 miles away in Davie. They publish that themselves.
Another top-ranking page — a company whose office is in Dania Beach, an hour and a half north — describes Homestead in two sentences and names not one street, not one neighbourhood, not one road. It also calls Homestead “the last stop on the way south to Key West,” which anyone who lives here knows is wrong. That’s Florida City, and it’s a different municipality.
This is what you’re choosing between: companies that have never staged a truck on Campbell Drive, don’t know the Turnpike doesn’t take cash, and have never had a crew sat at a Redland gate.
And underneath the templates sits the bigger problem — most of them are brokers. They sell your move, then auction it to whoever hauls it cheapest.
Want to talk to someone who actually runs this corner of the county? Call (754) 327-7816.
We're a Direct Carrier — Here's Exactly What That Means for Your Homestead Move
- A broker sells your move, then hands it off. A direct carrier owns the trucks, employs the crew and signs its own name to the delivery. Moving Hub is the second one. The estimator who prices your move, the crew that loads your home in Keys Gate and the driver who unloads it in San Antonio all answer to the same company — and to the same licence numbers at the bottom of this page. One chain of custody. One signature on the Bill of Lading. One phone number when you call.
-
Moving Hub is registered with the State of Florida as a Mover under Registration No. IM150010, and operates as a federally licensed motor carrier under USDOT #3699092 and MC #1293570.
Two separate credentials, because Florida regulates moves inside the state and the federal government regulates moves that cross the state line and we hold both. We own our trucks. Our movers are full-time, background-checked Moving Hub employees on our payroll not day labor, not a partner network, not a subcontractor sourced the night before.

How to Check Any Homestead Mover in Four Minutes
- For a move inside Florida: search the mover’s IM number in the FDACS Business License Lookup at csapp.fdacs.gov. No IM registration, no legal intrastate move in Florida.
- For a move across state lines: search their USDOT number in the FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov. Read the Operating Authority line — it says Carrier, Broker, or both.
- Check the entity type. If they hold broker authority only, they are not moving you. Someone else is, and you will not know who until move day.
- Ask one question: “Is the truck that loads my home the same truck that delivers it?” Time how long the answer takes.

Frequently Asked Questions — Movers in Homestead, FL
How much do movers cost in Homestead, FL?
Most local moves in Homestead run $880–$1,750 for a studio or one-bedroom, $1,350–$2,900 for a two- to three-bedroom, and $2,150–$4,400 for four bedrooms or more. Out-of-state moves from Homestead are priced by weight and mileage, typically $1,600–$9,800 depending on home size and destination. You can sanity-check a figure with our moving cost calculator.
Does the Florida Turnpike take cash near Homestead?
No. The Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike is all-electronic — cash is not accepted anywhere on it. Its southern terminus is Exit 1 at mile 0.000, where it meets US-1 in Florida City. There is only one service plaza on its 48 miles, at Snapper Creek, mile 19.
How much does Card Sound Road cost for a moving truck?
Card Sound Road tolls by axle. As of 1 October 2025, a two-axle vehicle pays $2.13 with SunPass or $3.18 by plate; three axles cost $4.05 or $6.08; each additional axle adds $1.35 or $2.03. Cash is not accepted, and discount programmes exclude vehicles towing trailers.
Who provides electricity in Homestead, FL?
HPS Energy, the City of Homestead’s own municipal utility — not Florida Power & Light. Start, stop or transfer service through the city portal or on 305-224-4800. Connection can be same-day if your request, documents and payment are submitted before noon.
Can a moving truck park at a Redland property?
Usually not at the door. The Redland is unincorporated Miami-Dade, where county code Section 33-124.1 prohibits vehicles over 20 feet long or 8 feet tall from parking in agricultural zones, allowing only active loading with a one-hour cap per 24 hours. Combined with five-acre lots and 50-foot setbacks, most Redland moves need a shuttle vehicle.
Is Moving Hub a broker or a direct carrier?
Moving Hub is a direct carrier. We own our trucks and employ our crews full time. The company that quotes your Homestead move is the company that loads it and delivers it. We never sell, broker or subcontract a move. Our FMCSA entity type reads Carrier, not Broker.
How do I check whether a Homestead moving company is licensed?
For a Florida move, search the mover’s IM number in the FDACS Business License Lookup at csapp.fdacs.gov. For an out-of-state move, search their USDOT number in the FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov and read the Operating Authority line — it shows Carrier, Broker, or both.
Do you move people from Homestead to the Florida Keys?
Yes. Homestead and Florida City are the mainland staging point for every Keys move. A Homestead-to-Key West move is intrastate — regulated by FDACS, not FMCSA — and runs roughly 115 miles. We quote Card Sound tolls at the correct axle rate and flag any date exposed to hurricane-season evacuation phasing.
What is the difference between an intrastate and an interstate move from Homestead?
An intrastate move stays inside Florida — Homestead to Key West, Orlando or Tampa — and is regulated by FDACS under Chapter 507, requiring a Florida IM registration. An interstate move crosses a state line and is regulated by FMCSA under 49 CFR Part 375, requiring active USDOT and MC authority. Moving Hub holds all three credentials.
How far in advance should I book movers in Homestead?
Book three to four weeks ahead for a local move and four to six weeks for an out-of-state move. Book earlier around NASCAR Championship Weekend on 6–8 November 2026, during peak season from May to September, and if your address needs a shuttle. Month-end slots fill weeks in advance.
Is Florida City the same as Homestead?
No. They are two separate incorporated municipalities. Florida City sits immediately south of Homestead, was incorporated on 29 December 1914, and is the southernmost city in the United States not located on an island. Moving Hub serves both, with the same crew, credentials and binding estimate.
What areas of Homestead do you serve?
We serve all of Homestead and Florida City including Keys Gate, the Keys Cove and Keys Edge districts, the new-construction communities across the city, Homestead Air Reserve Base, and the Redland agricultural area in unincorporated Miami-Dade, plus all of Miami-Dade, Broward, West Palm Beach and the Florida Keys.
Ready to Move — Down to the Keys, or Out of Florida Entirely?
One company. One crew. One number on the estimate and the same number on the invoice. Whether you’re going 115 miles to Key West or 1,205 miles to Houston, you’ll know exactly who is handling your home and what it costs before anyone touches a box.
