Where are you moving from and to?

Distance is the second-biggest driver of your price, after how much you own.

How big is the home you’re moving?

We convert this to shipment weight the way an estimator does — a cube sheet at roughly 7 lbs per cubic foot.

When do you want to move?

Timing is the one lever you fully control. Peak weeks cost 20–25% more than January.

How much packing do you want us to do?

The largest optional line on almost every move.

Anything that makes the load-out harder?

These are the charges movers spring on you at the curb. We’d rather price them now.

What makes up that number
This is a cost guide, not an estimate of charges. It is not an estimate within the meaning of 49 CFR Part 375, is not binding on you or on Moving Hub, and is not an offer of service. Actual charges follow our published tariff and the weight, services and conditions of your specific shipment. A written binding or non-binding estimate is issued after a visual or virtual survey of your goods, as federal regulation requires, before any bill of lading is signed.
Moving consultant running a twelve-minute video survey of a home to turn a cost estimate into a binding written quote

Turn this into a binding written quote

A twelve-minute video survey converts this range into one number we’re contractually held to — no stair fees, no fuel surcharge, no long-carry surprise. Same crew loads and delivers.

Your route, home size, move date and packing choice travel with you — the quote form only asks for what we still need.

No deposit to hold your date. We never sell or broker your move.

What a move costs in 2026, by home size and distance

Typical all-in ranges for a full-service move with a direct carrier. Local rows are priced hourly; the rest are priced on weight and mileage.

What movers actually charge for on a long-distance move

Interstate pricing is not a mystery — it is three layers, and only the first is about distance.

The three layers of an interstate moving bill
LayerHow it’s calculatedShare of a typical bill
LinehaulShipment weight in hundredweight × a rate that rises with mileage and falls as weight increases55–70%
AccessorialsPacking, materials, shuttle, long carry, stairs, bulky items, storage-in-transit20–35%
ValuationFull Value Protection at roughly 1% of declared value; Released Value is free at $0.60/lb5–10%

Rate per hundredweight falls sharply as shipments get heavier — a 12,000 lb shipment pays roughly half the rate per cwt of a 5,000 lb one over the same distance.

The cheapest and most expensive days to move

Roughly half to 60% of American moves happen between May and September, and the price follows the crowd.

Seasonal and calendar price effect on a moving quote

June, July, August+25%+$1,000
Last 3 / first 2 days of a month+8% on top+$320

The cheapest slot in the calendar is a Tuesday to Thursday between the 10th and the 20th, in January or February. The most expensive single days of the year are 30 June, 31 July and 1 August.

Questions people ask before they book

How accurate is an online moving cost calculator?

A calculator that asks for home size, distance, date and services can usually land within 10–20% of a real quote. It cannot see your specific inventory, your building’s access, or whether a 26-foot truck can reach your door — which is why federal regulation requires a visual or virtual survey before a binding estimate is issued. Treat any online number as a planning range, not a price.

How much does it cost to move a 3-bedroom house across the country?

A 3-bedroom household weighs roughly 8,000–10,000 lbs. Across 2,500 miles, expect $6,000–$10,400 for a full-service move including loading, transport, unloading and basic valuation. Full packing adds 30–40%, and Full Value Protection adds roughly 1% of declared value — around $510 on a shipment declared at the $6-per-pound minimum.

Why do movers price by weight instead of distance?

Because weight determines how much truck and crew your shipment consumes, and distance alone does not. Interstate carriers quote per hundredweight, and the rate per hundredweight rises with mileage but falls as the shipment gets heavier. That is why a cross-country move is not ten times the price of a 250-mile move — it is closer to twice.

What is the difference between a binding and a non-binding estimate?

A binding estimate locks the total to the inventory and services listed on it. A non-binding estimate is the carrier’s best guess and can change once the shipment is weighed — though under 49 CFR 375.407 you cannot be required to pay more than 110% of it at delivery. Moving Hub issues binding written estimates. A calculator output is neither, and creates no obligation on either side.

How much do movers cost per hour in Florida?

Local Florida moves are priced by crew size and hours on site, typically $45–$60 per mover per hour plus a truck fee, with one extra hour billed for travel. A two-mover crew runs about $90–$120 an hour, a three-mover crew about $135–$180. Most 2–3 bedroom local moves take five to eight hours on site.

Does this calculator send my details to multiple moving companies?

No. Moving Hub is a direct carrier, not a broker or a lead marketplace. Nothing on this page is submitted anywhere until you fill in the quote form yourself, and when you do, it goes to Moving Hub only. Your move is never sold, brokered or handed to a carrier you did not hire.
